Our Community Education Department works aggressively to provide lifelong training and learning opportunities to the residents of our six-county service area. Our objective is to deliver quality education, using traditional and alternative delivery methods, offered days, evenings, and weekends. Alternative delivery methods include the use of printed course work, e-mail, videotapes, video conferencing, cable, satellite, and the Internet. Classes, workshops, and conferences range in length from one clock hour to full certificate programs. Community education classes include vocational and avocational classes designed to meet community needs. The CE department also offers beginning and advanced training courses complimentary to our certificate programs.
Professional development classes provide an opportunity for people to develop or enhance skills necessary in the workplace. The schedule includes beginning computers, Windows XP, Microsoft Word and Excel, QuickBooks, AutoCAD, accounting, medical terminology, medical transcription, workplace communication skills, workplace math, job readiness, welding, and occupation-specific workplace Spanish.
Personal development classes are available for self-improvement, to pursue an interest, or to learn a skill. New personal development classes include drawing, watercolor painting, oil painting, sculpture, stained glass, woodcarving, quilting, cake decorating, digital photography, computers, organic gardening, water law, gardening, basic math, understanding real estate, and defensive living.
The Office of Community Education at DMTC will be looking for opportunities to develop new partnerships within the community that will create more variety in the classes offered.
The Community Education program relies on community participation for ideas for future classes, students to fill our classes, and instructors to teach our classes. Our highly qualified instructors are masters in their respective fields, and we are always looking for more members of the community who would like to share their talents and interests.
