Area Vocational School Goals
Advances in technology have placed a renewed emphasis on the need to provide solid technical skills required by the high-skilled, high-wage careers of the future. Area always worked aggressively with the local businesses to provide qualified applicants to meet the employment needs of the business community. In this, the schools embrace the following goals:
  • Promote career and technical education to the community as a viable postsecondary choice for high school graduates.
  • Quickly and efficiently respond to the educational needs of there communities.

Mission of Colorado Career and Technical Education:
To ensure student and local program success through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to a shared vision and provide secondary and post-secondary students knowledge and skills for employment and/or transition to further education. 

Overall Goal/Outcome of CTE:
To provide quality educational programs emphasizing core academic content, workplace competencies, technical skills, and seamless transition to further education or employment and better prepare students to meet challenges of the workforce and emerging occupations. 

Impact of CTE in Colorado:
• In 2003, the U.S. Department of Education praised Colorado’s CTE as a national model for CTE administration for successfully combining secondary and post-secondary administration into one system. 
• Secondary: In 2004-2005, there were just over 103,000 total student enrollments in 1226 secondary programs in 166 school districts. CTE secondary programs are offered at 265 high schools, 8 technical centers, and 4 area vocational school/technical colleges. 
• Post secondary: In 2004-2005, there were 29,172 total student enrollments in 600 postsecondary CTE programs at the 13 system community colleges, 2 local district colleges, one four year college, 4 area vocational school/technical colleges, both adult and youth state correctional facilities, and a few private vocational schools.
