The field of massage therapy is growing rapidly as the public becomes more aware of forms of healthcare that promote well-being and a higher quality of life. Trends that fuel that growth include recognition of massage as a tool for pain management, increased acceptance by healthcare providers, and the growth in spas. All predictions are that the massage therapy profession will continue to see rapid growth.
Massage therapists practice in a variety of settings, such as private offices or massage therapy clinics, chiropractors’ or doctor’s offices, holistic health clinics, health clubs and fitness centers, spas, nursing homes and hospitals, and with sports teams. Some massage therapists have portable equipment and work at their clients’ offices or homes.
Some practitioners choose to specialize in a specific application such as relaxation, stress reduction, pain management, or injury recovery. Others may choose to work with a specific clientele such as athletes, the elderly, office workers, or spa clients. Some practitioners focus on a particular modality or technique in their practice.
