The Police Academy/Detentions Correction Program is designed to prepare students for a career in Criminal Justice. The Police Academy provides training for students interested in becoming patrol officers. Our program meets the basic training requirements set by the state of Colorado as a prerequisite for taking the test to be come Peace Officers standards and training (POST) certified. This is approximately a 15 week program with new classes starting three times each year.
The Detentions Corrections emphasis provides training for students interested in becoming correctional officers. Though a cooperative program with Unified Technical Education Campus (UTEC) and Mesa State College of Grand Junction, students at DMAVTC may enroll in an AAS degree. Students seeking the Criminal Justice AAS would enroll in the Criminal Justice program at DMTC and then complete the required general education courses through Mesa State.
