Early Childhood Professions

The Early Childhood Professions program prepares individuals for employment as group leaders, infant/toddler group leaders or directors in child care centers, public school settings, headstart programs, or other areas where caring for young children is the primary function. This program focuses on cognitive, physical, emotional, and social growth and development.
The Group Leader certificate fulfils the training requirement for group leaders in Colorado. In addition to earning the Group Leader certificate, the individual must be at least 18 years of age and have 12 months (1,820 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four or more children under six years of age who are not related to the individual.
The Infant/Toddler Group Leader certificate fulfils the training requirements for infant/toddler group leaders in Colorado. In addition to earning the Infant/Toddler Group Leader certificate, the individual must be at least 19 years old and have a minimum of 12 months (1,820 hours) of verified experience in the group care of infants or toddlers.
The Director certificate fulfils the training requirement for director of a large child care center in Colorado. In addition to earning the Director certificate, the individual must have 24 months (3,460 hours) of verified experience working directly with children in a child development program.
